Should I go to culinary school?

Main Post:

Should I go to culinary school or should I just get a job and work my way up I someday want to work in a high end restaurant I’m 18 and graduate in may what should I do

Top Comment:

I’ve worked in a couple high end restaurants and I never went to culinary school. I’m 23 and have worked in many different kitchens (intentionally) so that I can learn from other chefs, different styles, and be taught how to cook in any restaurant in any position in general. Apply at a nice place, learn everything you can, and do it again at a new place. That’s what I did instead of paying for school. Now I have a lot of experience on my resume and can name my wage and they listen. Experience over school. Unless you want to be head chef at a French restaurant or something then school would be better but still not required

The Big 12 will go from having two AAU member schools (Kansas, Texas) to having five AAU members in 2024 with the addition of Arizona, ASU, Colorado, and Utah, and with the loss of Texas

Main Post:

With UT leaving the Big 12 after the 2023 season, the Big 12 was going to have only one AAU member school going forward (Kansas), until this latest round of realignment over the past few days. The University of Texas is an AAU member, but is obviously leaving for the SEC in 2024. Iowa State is also no longer an AAU member as of 2022.

Arizona, Arizona State, Utah, and Colorado are all AAU members, and will join Kansas as being the Big 12's AAU members.

Also, randomly enough USC president Carol Folt is the current president of the AAU.

Looks like the Big 12 came here to play school after all! All the more proof why the Big 12 should be on the phone with Cal and Stanford ASAP.

Top Comment: Finally, we were getting tired of carrying this conference academically

How important IS it to go to an Ivy League university?

Main Post:

It seems like all throughout media and the internet, all you hear is how important Ivy League schools are. In every piece of media and hell, even real life, it seems like all successful people have been to an Ivy League school.

As a non-American, how important is it really? Here in Canada we do not really have Ivy League schools.

And why the hell are all the Ivy League schools located in New England?

Is it still possible to get an elite level, high-paying career without an Ivy League degree?

Top Comment: Note that the value in Ivy League schools is not in the education; it's who you meet while you are there. Connections make the world go 'round.

Additional training schools

Main Post:

Just curious what additional training schools you can attend as a PJ. I’ve been told you can go to ranger school and air assault school. Is this true? Any other schools you can non-traditionally go to?

Top Comment:

Yes there are plenty of schools you can attend.

nobody needs or wants to go to air assault school. You can attend Ranger School if you want ... but why? The schools you really want to attend are not the ones you hear about as a civilian.
